This article’s theme area:
We really do need a sense of belonging, even if we’re loners – there is just something about the big picture that is so critical to our souls. I think it’s related to “service” or contribution: the most fundamental source of fulfilment.
Whether our contribution is front page news, or taking place in anonymous isolation: when you are fulfilled, the world’s mission is fulfilled. How can it not be? – SL

There has never been been a better time to succeed than now…
In life, we have two choices.
1) Live life and be happy
2) Go around looking for things to be upset about and live miserably
Really, think about it. Take a minute to really think about all the complaining (negativity) that goes on around us (and from us) on a daily basis. In this day and age, we use negativity as a conversation starter, for Pete’s sake! Somebody asks how you’re doing and you respond with something like, “Well I’d be better if the sun would show itself for a change…” or whatever it might
be. We do this all the time. People around us do this all the time and it’s absolutely suffocating. Have you considered how negativity could be impacting your ability to succeed in life?
You want to know the most awesome thing about success? Everyone has a different definition. My goals and aspirations are completely different than yours. You see, even if you and I have similar goals, the way we think about them and envision them in our minds is so completely different. This means that there is enough success to go around! It also means that your definition of success is left within your capable hands to achieve. How do you get started? In my own words: PUNCH NEGATIVITY IN THE FACE!
Your life is a product of your thoughts, what you think about all day becomes the basis of your life.-Leon Brown
Go out of your way to BE positive, THINK positive and DO positive. Might sound overly simple and kind of corny, but try it for a week. Surround yourself with:
- notes bearing positive affirmations or quotes from your idols
- inspiring photos showing what you want for your life
- books by favorite mentors (you don’t even have to read them, just have them around!)
- a chart of your life plan or business plan
- simple things like flowers, a fragrance you love, images of calm…
Think about things that you would normally say that may have a negative tone and get rid of them. Use the old rubber-band-around-your-wrist trick and give it a good SNAP anytime a negative or self-deprecating thought sneaks in. (It’s a “behaviour modification” technique that believe it or not, actually works; generally, for a specific behaviour, three weeks makes a permanent change, and your red wrist heals!) Stop wasting energy focusing on the lack of “ups” you’ve had and take action: spit negativity right out of your life and spend that valuable energy on steps to success.
Remember, people come from different backgrounds, and may live in atmospheres that are not optimum for positivity and healthy thinking. You may strive to reach each level of success, to personally grow and develop and constantly seek excellence, but unfortunately, there are those who have given negativity a front row ticket causing them sabotaging life patterns (often subconsciously).
There is a definite pattern for success. Some would have you believe that you JUST need to be original, have confidence, motivation, and that the ultimate win is to be recognized for your accomplishments. This is a myth. Being yourself IS the only place to start, but SUCCESS IS A RECIPE. What’s on the menu of course will be based on your own definitions, but your soul will in fact starve if your only ingredient is your fabulous self: fulfillment comes when you USE your life – you need a plan. Follow the recipe for chocolate cake and get chocolate cake. Success is actually a pretty easy concept; you just need to take action. Eliminating negative things from your life is leaps and bounds more productive than seeking to find the next golden key.
Have you figured out your definition of success?
That’s the first step. Work to recapture your dreams. Give yourself something to work for. Once you’ve defined your dream, started a REAL plan for its realization, and punched negativity in the face, you’re cooking!!
Success is on your terms, it’s your life: DON’T WAIT. DOMINATE!
There has never been a better time to succeed than now.

See “QUOTES to Query” and quotes archives” for some great affirmation inspiration! Here’s a passage that always provokes me -SL:
“You have to take risks, he said. We will only understand the miracle of life fully when we allow the unexpected to happen.
Every day, the world gives us the sun—and also one moment in which we have the ability to change everything that makes us unhappy. Every day, we try to pretend that we haven’t perceived that moment, that it doesn’t exist— that today is the same as yesterday and will be the same as tomorrow.
But if people really pay attention to their everyday lives, they will discover that magic moment. It may arrive in the instant when we are doing something mundane, like putting our front-door key in the lock; it may lie hidden in the quiet that follows the lunch hour or in the thousand and one things that all seem the same to us. But that moment exists— a moment when all the power of the stars becomes a part of us and enables us to perform miracles.” -author Paulo Coelho
